3 yr old Ella

2009, Feb.2nd, Ella
SN: SN: postoperative CHD (ASD VSD); abnormal chromosome; karyotype46, xx,r(15); retard development

She is an active girl with a strong mind. Although she is weak physically, she tried her best in doing everything. She could zip her clothes by herself, and she has learned to eat by herself. She wears diapers usually, but the caretakers would train her to defecate every month. As for physical development, now she can walk steadily on her own, and she can run and jump flexibly. She is excited to meet people and she would run around when she is excited. She was not fond of TV, but she could turn on the TV. She loves to eat snacks, especially fruit and candies. She likes to have meat. On language ability, she can speak, but basically phrases with 2-3 words. She could distinguish acquaintances and strangers. She can play with people she is not familiar with, but she would not leave home with them. She has skin problems, sometimes she would suffer from allergy itching and other symptoms. She was allergic to Cefixime for Suspension, and she would have red rash.

Her weight: 10.5 kg, height: 84 cm, head size: 43 cm, chest size: 46.5 cm, 20 teeth

It sounds like this child has an extremely rare genetic condition called Ring Chromosome 15 Syndrome, which resulted in a combination of heart and lung problems, growth retardation, and perhaps other symptoms not mentioned in the short summary you quoted. Apparently only 50 cases of this condition have been reported since it was first identified in 1966.

This technical paper describes a possibly similar case: http://www.hkjpaed.org/pdf/2011;16;175-179.pdf

12 yr old George

This was written by an advocating friend of mine.

"George is 12 years old and has spent the last number of years in an orphanage in China. I met George at Bring Me Hope summer camps last year, and then spent two weeks at his orphanage this summer. After spending quite a bit of time with him, I know with all my heart that George NEEDS a family. Many people have fallen in love with this kid and are praying for his family to find him before it's too late. George has less than TWO YEARS before he ages out...

His special need is 'Congenital heart disease, post surgery'. George is intellectually normal which is very evident in his behaviour, attitudes and capabilities. He is really smart and has learned lots of poetry and songs, which he will perform - if you are lucky!

Like a typical 12 year old boy, George tries to act cool most of the time!! However, when he thinks no one is looking, you will see the softer side to his personality! George is very caring and loves to help people. He would especially look after one of the younger deaf boys! While I was with George at his orphanage for two weeks, the younger deaf boy was adopted. I got to see George dealing with this, and while he did not reveal much, I did notice him cherishing their last few days together. One day we were playing circle games, the two boys sat together and George put his arm around the younger boy. I ask George 'do you love him?'. A beaming smile erupted across his face and he nodded energetically!

George loves when volunteers come to his orphanage! He loves having more people to play with, to take them on trips, to run activities, and to have more fun! He also loves borrowing iPhones and iPads to play games any 12 year old plays! He is particularly good at Temple Run and Angry Birds!!

In China, on an orphans 14th birthday they can no longer be adopted. This means that George has less than two years to be brought home. In actual fact he has much less time than that, as the process takes months. There is a clock ticking down his days. George is funny, smart and has a cute smile. He needs someone to call Mom and Dad."

8 yr old Allen

DOB: Sep.15 2003

SN: CHD

Allen is just too cute for words! The child is now 8, living in Shanghai and still waiting for a family. He has a diagnosis of CHD and cardianastrophe and is unable to do a lot of things that other boys can. No one is willing to do the surgery that he needs in China and so he waits. And waits.

His mental development is basically normal, at present he is studying in the preschool, in the aspect of limbs and motion skills,

He can go upstairs with holding the handrails, can hold pencil, continuously drawl lines and scribbles, can stand alone for 5 seconds, in the aspect of environmental adaptability, he knows big and small, knows inner and outer, knows red and yellow, in the aspect of language and social ability, can say sentences with 5-10 words, can say the function of common things, knows he is a boy, knows cold, tired, hungry, can take off and put on the clothes, can release the button, can count the number 1-10, he is a clever and cute boy.

From a family that saw him several months ago, they said he is quiet, shy and likes imitating sings and things people say. He likes playing with toys and reading books. He is obsessed with the building blocks, so I have a feeling that he would be a Lego fiend like my own 11 yr old. :o)

The people he is close to are the caretaker and the kids in the same room.

Are you his family? He is such a sweetie and so desperately needs a family to bring him home and get him the surgery he needs.

Email me at Maeveyblue@aol.com for more information. He is currently on the shared list.

4 yr old Macy is on the shared list

Look at that smile!!

Macy is always happy to see visitors. She is constantly smiling and loves it when people talk to her. When she is being tickled, she has a very sweet, contagious laugh and loves to play with her feet as they wiggle in front of her.

I have personally met her and can say that she is a doll!

Special Need: Cleft lip & palate (which has been fixed), Heart issue (minor)

11 yr old Moses is on the shared list and Reese's Rainbow!

WE HAVE ALSO GOTTEN HIM ONTO REESE'S RAINBOW, WHICH MEANS THAT ALL DONATIONS TO HIS FUND ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE! SO EVEN IF YOU AREN'T ABLE TO ADOPT HIM YOURSELF, YOUR DONATION COULD BE INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING A FAMILY BRING HIM HOME.

Moses loves getting his picture taken and always has a smile ready. Even though he can’t hear or speak, he enjoys singing in class and will try to do the hand motions for the songs. He is focused when he colors pictures and tries to stay in the lines. Moses is very protective of housemate Joy and enjoys playing with the other kids in his house.  In spite of being deaf and mute he is able to communicate with ease basic things that he needs and is persistent in showing you just what that is.
